EP-2 Pump Specifications and Installation Instructions

c. Black: This goes to the 24vac COMMON terminal of the HVAC unit transformer, NOT the transformer powering the zoning equipment. This terminal is usually NOT present on the zone control board under “equipment” since it is not needed. If your old thermostat has a “C” for common, that is the 24vac common terminal you are looking for. If replacing an older pump, connect the black wire to the same location as the original black wire.

d. NOTE: Very old pumps may be 110vac  and your new EP-1 or EP-2 pump is NOT wired like the original pump.

OPERATION: A relay is energized to start the pump on either call for fan or heat. The pump will not run if the equipment is not running.

3. After installation, wrap relay and connections with electrical tape to avoid shorting.

4. Hoses:

  • Vacuum: The top hose is the vacuum connection which corresponds to the larger connector that is attached to the side of the EP-1 pump. Disconnect the larger tubing where it plugs into the larger left side fitting of the solenoid panel. NOTE: You may need to slightly stretch the smaller size 3/16” ID tubing to fit over the original 1/4” vacuum elbow connector.
  • Pressure: The bottom hose is the pressure connection. Disconnect the smaller original 3/16” ID tubing from the smaller left side fitting of the solenoid panel, and connect the bottom hose here.

5. Mounting the pump: Use 2 long deck type screws to suspend the EP-2 pump far enough away from the wall, if possible, so that the pump and sling do not touch the wall. This will keep potential noise from wall contact from occurring.

WARNING: The original style EP-1 pump (with three clear plastic hoses) had an 110 volt plug on two wires (or in some cases had the plug removed by installers, and was hardwired to 110vac). DO NOT CONNECT this EP-2 pump (with two clear plastic hoses) to 110vac as this pump is 24vac. This EP-2 pump connects to only full time 24vac on three wires.

Caution: Failure to comply with these instructions will damage pump, void warranty, and cause unsafe operating conditions. Consult a qualified electrician as needed.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Voltage: 24vac
  • Rated Performance: 5 LPM at 5kPa
  • Relay: The pump contains a 24vac relay designed to operate the pump in conjunction with the HVAC blower and furnace.

NOTE: Use a qualified electrician or installer as needed. High voltage wiring exists in most furnace cabinets - do not attempt service work unless you are qualified to do so.

Pump - EP1 or EP2:

1. Two wire cable: The two wire cable goes to the transformer dedicated to the zone control system, for full time 24vac. There is no polarity, meaning either wire may be used on either of the two 24vac connections.

2. Three wire cable:

a. Red, White, or Green: Any of these colors go to the furnace W wire going to the HVAC equipment that operates the furnace. Note that these connections are made under the “equipment” terminals on most zone panels.

b. Red, White, or Green: Any of these colors go to the fan G wire to the HVAC equipment.

Green wire: connect to HVAC fan equipment circuit “G"

Connect to 24vac transformer serving zone control panel

CONSULT A QUALIFIED HVAC TECHNICIAN OR ELECTRICIAN AS NEEDED.

Dangerous high voltage, high amperage power is present in most HVAC units and extreme caution must be taken.
